It is true that Spring is on its way, although some days certainly haven’t felt like it. May is about celebrating the special woman in your life – your mom, and Mother Nature! May is the month of Mothers and also the first long weekend of the season that people anxiously await.
Traditionally known as “May Two-Four” or “May Long Weekend”, it is marked by cottage openings, garden planting and awe-inspiring fireworks. We can thank Queen Victoria for these spring festivities – May 21st is Victoria Day, in celebration of not only her birthday, but also in celebration of the current monarch.
Mothers everywhere will be only too happy to remind you (and mothers know best!) that May is the most important month because of Mother’s Day. It falls on the second Sunday in May in most countries around the world, including Canada –May 12th this year, so mark your calendars! And if you are wondering who first declared that we should have a special day to pay tribute to moms, it was US President Woodrow Wilson – back in 1914.
Wondering how you should you celebrate your “Mom”, “Mum”, “Mommy”, “Momma”, “Mama” or “Maman” this year? Well, rather than buying her an over-priced bouquet of flowers or a mega-box of chocolates, we have a better idea. In our opinion, the next best thing to cooking a homemade dinner is treating your mother to this month’s sweet Crepe Delicious offering: a Sweet Mom crepe. Filled with fresh sliced banana, and topped with a drizzle of delectable dulce de leche and a sprinkling of coconut, this delicacy is sure to be as sweet as your mom – in fact, it was named for her! Happy Mother’s Day from your friends at Crepe Delicious!
Spring has definitely sprung. As you traipse through this month’s raindrops and puddles under the cover of your umbrella, keep in mind that the inclement weather will soon make way for sunny days and fresh, rejuvenated gardens!
The very first day of the month, April 1st, is a “combo deal” for celebrations this year! First, it is of course April Fool’s Day – a day for all you tricksters out there to play practical jokes on your friends and family. And, Easter falls on April 1st as well. Hmmm… could this mean that the Easter bunny may have some pranks in his egg basket?
What better way to celebrate the spring revitalization than Earth Day, which falls on April 22nd this year! Do Mother Earth proud by taking part in some of the many activities and events that are geared towards conserving our environment, and celebrating our wonderful planet.
And now for something a little bit different… this month’s “funny” holiday should put a huge smile on your face. It falls on April 14th, and is called the “International Moment of Laughter Day”! Professional speaker and humour consultant Izzy Gesell dreamed up this celebration in order to share the importance of laughter with others. What the heck, meet up with some friends, share some jokes, and enjoy some snickers n’ snorts!
Let’s just say that this month’s special crepe is no joke… the “Spring Ham” is a lip-smacking combination of glazed ham, pineapple and lettuce, sprinkled with cheese. Give it a try! And don’t forget to take advantage of our private catering service when you hold a special event. We’ll come right to you armed with our crepe makers or crepe cart, as well as a fresh supply of crepe ingredients. Our Executive Chef can even create a signature crepe especially for you! Let’s just say there’s no shortage of reasons to celebrate in March! In addition to the days getting longer and the temperature getting higher, there are a bunch of wonderful holidays as well.
This month brings hopes of higher temperatures and melting snow, and the celebration of Spring. On Sunday, March 10th we turn our clocks back to Daylight Savings Time, and then later in the month on March 20th, we have the official first day of Spring! Charles Dickens said it best: “It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.” Never sure what to wear when you go outside? It’s all about layers people!
March is chock o’ block with reasons to have fun. Let’s start with the recognition of International Women’s Day on March 8th. Shortly afterward, St Patrick’s Day falls on March 17th… we highly recommend having a green pint or two, and dancing a jig with your friends at the neighbourhood Irish pub! The eve of Passover arrives on March 25th – those of Jewish faith gather with friends and family to share symbolic meals in their community. And finally, Easter comes early this year – Good Friday falls on March 29th, and Easter Monday follows on April 1st. You can commemorate this Christian holiday by attending a religious service, painting Easter eggs and eating the chocolate treats that the Easter Bunny drops off!
And now for something a little bit different… bet you didn’t know March 13th is “Earmuff Day”! The inventor of the earmuffs, Chester Greenwood, was only 15 when he came up with this cozy-ear idea on a cold day in Farmington, Maine back in 1873!
Our chefs are serving up “Hello Hummus” this month, a healthy crepe stuffed with garden fresh veggies, tasty hummus and topped with chick peas. Remember, you can create amazing crepe combos at home, and remember to post your photos on our facebook page!
Despite the cold temperatures, February’s all about warmth for friends and family! Spend some time with loved ones… take your sweetheart out on a special date for Valentine’s Day, and then take advantage of Family Day to hang out with your family for a long weekend. Read on to find out more about these special holidays, and of course learn more about our treat of the month!
Family Day, which always falls on a Monday, is a public holiday designed to give family members an extra long weekend to spend quality time together. Take the opportunity to enjoy some outdoor fun like skiing or skating, or – if it’s a bit too chilly – stay inside and play some cards or even research your family history! This year, Family Day is celebrated on February 11th in British Columbia, and on February 18 th in the provinces of Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan.
The most recognized February day is of course the 14th, Valentine’s Day! It is a special tribute to romantic love – a day when couples celebrate their relationship by giving gifts such as beautiful bunches of red roses, heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, or even a shiny piece of jewelry. Presents aside, remember that showering your loved ones with kisses and hugs is the best way to celebrate…. xoxoxo!
And now for something a little bit different… if you’re a chocolate fan, there’s one more, slightly nutty, reason to celebrate in February – World Nutella Day! Check out the website, and unite with your fellow Nutella lovers to drool over the newest Nutella recipes, and even learn how to say “Happy Nutella Day” in multiple languages!
This month, our chefs have lovingly created the “something”, perfect for sharing … the New York crepe. Think New York cheesecake, nutella, fresh strawberries & whipped cream! And if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, keep in mind that you don’t have to go to a Crepe Delicious creperie to satisfy your craving. You can get your very own crepe machine, or take advantage of our catering service – you and your friends and family can enjoy our amazing creations at your private event. We’ll even have our Executive Chef create a signature crepe especially for you! We’ll come to your venue with our crepe makers or crepe cart, and a bounty of fresh ingredients to make your event a success. Click here to learn more, and take a peek at our list of our delighted clients.
The month of January is typically a month of “renewal”… a time to reflect on the year that was, and look forward to the wonderful year ahead. Many people focus on their New Years resolutions which, after all the festive feasts of December, often include diet plans and exercise regimens for the coming year!
New Year’s is celebrated on two days – Dec 31st and Jan 1st. The festivities are based on ancient celebrations of the winter solstice by Europeans, as well as by First Nations peoples in what is now Canada. January 1st is “New Year’s Day” – a statutory holiday. Thank goodness for that, as it is also the “recovery” day after December 31st or “New Years Eve”, the night on which many folks celebrate the holiday season at parties with their friends and family. Others take part in public outdoor events, such as the Citytv New Year’s bash – an evening concert and awe-inspiring midnight fireworks held at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto.
A slightly more “wintry” way of celebrating the month of January in Canada is to take part in the Niagara Icewine Festival. This three-weekend event — Jan 12-13, 19-20 and 26-27— gives you the opportunity to experience the wonderful wines and culinary delights in the heart of the romantic Niagara wine region.
And now for something a little bit different: If you’re an Elvis fan, you may want to don your blue suede shoes and head to Honolulu, Hawaii for Elvis Presley’s Aloha from Hawaii, the 40th Anniversary Celebration. The event, which will be held from January 10-15, will include concerts, and tours of Elvis-related sites on the island. The Elvis bonanza will end with a movie screening of “Aloha from Hawaii”, held 40 years later in the same venue as the original concert!
We are kicking off 2013 with a healthy crepe called the Egg-cellent. This tasty, healthy new-year treat consists of sliced egg and fresh veggies. Keep in mind that Crepe Delicious offers catering, so that you and your guests can enjoy our crazily yummy crepes at your special event. We’ll come to you with our own crepe makers or crepe cart, as well as all the fresh ingredients you can imagine. Click here to learn more about our catering services, including a list of some of our happy clients!
The month of December is perfect for spending some quality downtime with friends and family to celebrate the holidays, and take advantage of the winter wonderland that the season brings! December is traditionally a time when we all take a little break from the tedium of school and work to enjoy family gatherings and dinners, and partake in some “cool” winter sports. Read on to find out more about some of the traditional festivities, get some great ideas for keeping busy during the holiday break, and of course check out our fantastic gift idea!
Chanukah, otherwise known as “Hanukkah” or the Festival of Lights is celebrated in December. This year, the eight-day celebration, begins on Sunday, December 9th. The first night Chanukah begins with special blessings at sunset, and the holiday is commemorated through gift giving, candle lighting and various events with family and friends.
Christmas Day, December 25th, is filled with activities, gatherings and food! Families and friends exchange gifts, share traditional meals such as turkey complete with cranberries, potatoes and vegetables, as well as a variety of tasty baked goods or Christmas pudding!
The day after Christmas is Boxing Day, another public holiday. We encourage you to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and participate in some winter sports such as ice hockey, skiing, snowboarding, snow-shoeing, and everyone’s favourite… tobogganing! And last but not least, don’t forget to save a bit of your energy for the big celebrations on the 31st, when we usher in the new year.
Whatever your holiday celebrations and traditions bring, you can welcome a new family tradition with your very own crepe machine. Perfect for your own home, or gift giving, it is a unique tradition that everyone will enjoy! And don’t forget, Crepe Delicious offers catering, so that you and your friends and family can enjoy our scrumptious creations at your special holiday event. We’ll come to your venue with our own crepe makers to make your event a success.
We wish you all the best for the holidays and a happy and healthy 2013.
November is a month of transition… most of the autumn leaves have fallen, and the nights are getting nippy. With snow already falling in some parts of the country, the toques and gloves are coming out of storage. Winter’s on its way! Read on to find out more about what November brings, including Remembrance Day, and of course the latest Crepe of the Month!
The coming of November signals the arrival of winter… and just before the snow flies, a glimpse of the upcoming festive season! Many cities hold their Santa Claus parades in November. Click here to check out this year’s Santa Claus parades across the country.
Another salutation this month is Remembrance Day, which takes place on Sunday, November 11. It was established as a way to honour the men and women who have died while serving their country. Traditionally, Canadians take part in different types of remembrance ceremonies and services, all of which include two minutes of silence at precisely 11 a.m. A bright red poppy is the symbol of Remembrance Day – volunteers offer poppy pins in exchange for donations that are used to support war veterans.
This November, we’ve created the “Brownie Bash”, a festive crepe that features a delicious combination of decadent brownie chunks and marshmallow topped with chocolate sauce. Yours to enjoy!!
When you’re planning your office parties or private events, remember that Crepe Delicious offers catering – we’ll show up with our crepe makers or crepe cart, and all the fresh ingredients to make your gathering a memorable event. Click here to learn more about our catering services and invite Crepe Delicious to your next event!
October is a wonderful time to enjoy the colourful autumn season and of course, to give thanks. Since 1957, Thanksgiving Day has been help in Canada on the second Monday of the month to give thanks for a bountiful harvest and other good fortunes over the past year.
At Thanksgiving, most Canadians enjoy a long weekend with a statutory holiday on the Monday. It’s a time for family gatherings, with traditional Thanksgiving dinners – complete with an over-sized turkey and all the fixins! – held on the Sunday evening. Table leaves and extra chairs are brought out to accommodate everyone, and decorations include pumpkins and gourds, ears of corn, wheat sheaves and other classic signs of the harvest.
Don’t worry though, it’s not all about eating… after the Thanksgiving feast, people like to work off a few of those extra pounds through other traditional Thanksgiving weekend activities such as hiking to enjoy the autumn foliage, attending football games – of the backyard and “official” variety – and taking in Thanksgiving parades and fall fairs! A great family outing, the fall fairs offer something for everyone… petting zoos for the kids, craft displays for Mom, giant pumpkin competitions for Dad, and freshly baked fruit pies for all (if there’s any room left!).
Our October crepe feature is truly a seasonal sensation! Labeled the Turkey Thanks, this bundle of goodness boasts turkey slices and fresh veggies, and is topped with dried cranberries, and – just to sweeten the deal – tasty strawberries. To the creative chefs at Crepe Delicious, we’d like to say “Thanks for the Thanks”!
Ah, September… it’s time to wind down the pool parties and golf games, and settle into the month of changing leaves and fall fairs. And for many children and parents alike, the fading memories of summer turn into binder-buying and clothes-shopping for ‘back to school’! That said, thank goodness we start the month off with the extra-long Labour Day weekend.
This year, we have made a valiant attempt to ease you out of summer fun and into the fall season by developing a fancy new crepe that tastes great and actually reflects the colours of the season!
Ever since the 1880s, Labour Day in Canada has been held on the first Monday in the month of September – this year it falls on September 3rd. Viewed as the unofficial end of summer, it gives everyone a chance to spend some time with family and enjoy the great outdoors before it gets nippy! The shift into the fall in Canada signals a whole new set of activities – the most popular one probably being “leaf peeping”, or checking out the changing colours of the trees! If you’re not into leaf peepshows, you could also try out some fall fishing or apple and berry-picking, or check out the livestock and autumn harvests at the local fall fairs! And cap it all off with some traditional Labour Day fireworks.
This month, our feature is a healthy number complete with autumn colours and seasonal fruit! Dubbed the Caramel Apple, this scrumptious crepe is stuffed with sliced apples and smooth caramel sauce, and topped with walnuts. Just the thing to help you “fall” right into the new season!
The month of August is the last big hurrah before we wind down the season … the lazy hazy days of summer won’t last much longer. It will soon be time to ease into our comfy sweaters and head back to school, so take advantage of every last minute!
And on the holiday front, although we’ve only just recovered from Canada Day, we’re blessed with yet another long weekend. This time to celebrate the Civic Holiday. We’ll take it! Keep reading to find out more about the summer’s last big festivity, and to see what we’ve created for our tastebuds this month…something equally healthy as it is tasty.
As mentioned, we have another national holiday this month, the Civic Holiday, or ‘August Long Weekend’ as we like to call it! It always falls on the first Monday of the month and it has different names depending on where you live. For example, if you’re in Nova Scotia you’ll celebrate “Natal Day”, if you’re in Newfoundland you’ll party on “Regatta Day”, and if you’re in Ontario’s capital of Toronto, you’ll enjoy “Simcoe Day”! The only certainty is that if you’re in a vehicle on your way to a campsite or cottage on any Canadian highway, you will probably be nicknaming it “The-Worst-Traffic-Jams-I’ve-Ever-Seen Day”.
This month, take a health break from heaping barbecued cheeseburgers, roasted weenies and s’mores, and try our August crepe feature! Dubbed the Super Sprout, this bundle of goodness boasts fresh veggies, mushrooms, chick peas and sprouts – it’s not only refreshing, it’s crazily good for you. We wish you all healthy eating and safe travels!
It’s finally July – typically the warmest month for the northern hemisphere – so get out and enjoy the heart of summer! Before you know it the winter winds and flurries will be back, so take this chance to get out and enjoy the great outdoors while you can. Go walking, jogging, hiking, biking, rollerblading, skateboarding, swimming, pogo-sticking, trampolining… choose the activity that suits you best, but just get outside and have some fun!
And let’s not forget, Sunday, July 1st is our country’s national holiday – Canada Day! Read on to find out about the wonderful treat we have created to help you celebrate not only on the holiday weekend, but the whole month of July.
Although you may fondly think of the July 1st weekend as one of the times when you get an extra day off work to extend your burger n’ marshmallow activities at the cottage, don’t forget why – it’s Canada’s birthday! Canada Day is celebrated all across the country in every province and territory, and marks the day back in 1867 when Canada signed the Constitution Act – essentially uniting two British colonies and a province of the British Empire into one big glorious country.
We encourage you to celebrate our nation’s birthday in true “Canadian” style. Go for a skinny-dip in a cold northern lake… have pancakes dripping with maple syrup for breakfast… work on finetuning your loon call… get out to see some red and white fireworks!
The one thing you don’t need to worry about for the celebrations this year is baking a red and white cake – we’ve nicely covered that off for you! This month’s patriotically yummy Crepe Delicious special is called the Red and White – fresh strawberries and creamy custard wrapped together in a crepe, and sprinkled with icing sugar. Come on in and try one… you may find you want to celebrate Canada’s birthday every day of the month.
Spring has sprung – the flowers and new romances are now in full bloom, and we’re headed into the hot, hazy days of summer. June is all about patio lunches, afternoon bike rides and evening strolls through the park – its time to get outdoors and celebrate nature! Read on for just a few of the different ways you can do your part to help the environment and our planet over the next month.
Last month we celebrated Mom… well now it’s Dad’s turn. The third Sunday in June marks the day that we celebrate our fathers and show them our appreciation – this year it falls on June 17th, so mark your calendars!
This year, Canadian Environment Week takes place from June 3-9. The whole week is dedicated to protecting Canada’s natural environment, and there are several cool things sandwiched in. Take a few minutes to read on, and think about what you can do to protect the natural environment!
• The week-long Commuter Challenge is a national, friendly competition among organizations and cities to see who can get the biggest percentage of employees out of their cars, and into using healthier, cleaner ways of travelling such as walking, cycling, carpooling or public transit.
• June 5 is World Environment Day – in 1972, the United Nations designated this as a special day in order to stimulate activities to help save the environment.
• Clean Air Day on June 6 is a chance for Canadians to show their commitment to making the air cleaner by learning about air pollution and participating in activities that contribute to cleaner air – ride your bike!
• And finally, June 8 is World Oceans Day. The Government of Canada introduced the idea of a special “oceans” day in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, and ever since, it has been celebrated around the world. Think about the important role of oceans to our planet, and help raise awareness!
This month’s scrumptious Crepe Delicious feature is perfect for the season: a Hot Love crepe. Treat that special someone (this month, probably your Dad or your new summer romance!) to this spicy number. Scrambled eggs, fresh veggies and mozzarella, all wrapped in our signature crepe and drizzled with our special hot sauce. Perfect for brunch or anytime!
Most people gladly celebrate the long weekend in May – traditionally known as “May Two-Four” or “May Long Weekend” – by opening the cottage, planting their gardens or catching an awe-inspiring fireworks display. We can thank Queen Victoria for these spring festivities – May 21st is Victoria Day, in celebration of not only her birthday, but also in celebration of the current monarch.
Now, putting the long weekend aside, mothers everywhere will be only too happy to remind you (and mothers know best!) that May is the most important month because of Mother’s Day. It falls on the second Sunday in May in most countries around the world, including Canada –May 13th this year, so mark your calendars!
Well, rather than buying her an over-priced bouquet of flowers (not always so lovely during allergy season), or a mega-box of chocolates (she’s trying to shed a few pounds for bikini season!), we have a better idea. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for another exclusive Mother’s Day offer!
“April showers bring May flowers”, so the saying goes… but don’t let a few drops of rain get you down! Grab your brolly, don your wellies, and dance in the puddles to celebrate the end of winter and beginning of spring.
As you know, the month begins with All Fools’ Day or April Fool’s, a day for pranks, practical jokes and hoaxes. But don’t be fooled for long. By April, spring is in full swing – meaning not only a delightful new season filled with everything fresh, but also a time of important celebrations.
Take for example April 2nd, International Children’s Book Day. Since 1967, this day has been devoted to the love of books in honour of beloved children’s author Hans Christian Andersen. So whether you’re a kid, or simply a “kid at heart”, this is your chance to take a few hours to escape, and enjoy an enchanting child’s tale or two.
And let’s not forget Easter on April 8th… a time for feasting! Before you go hunting for chocolate treasures hidden by the Easter Bunny, we invite you to try this month’s healthy, delectable Crepe Delicious treat: a Spring Ham crepe, complete with sweet glazed ham, pineapple, lettuce and a sprinkle of cheese to top it off!
Lastly, we celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd. We encourage you all to hug your planet on this special day by participating in one of the wonderful programs in your area – check out the Earth Day website for more details. (link www.earthday.ca). What better way to rejoice in the earth’s bounty than to enjoy the fresh, healthy flavours of the season brought to you by your friends at Crepe Delicious!

Did you know that March is Nutrition Month in Canada?
March is packed with special days. It is a celebration of leprechauns and Guinness with St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th. International Women’s Day is recognized worldwide on March 8th, and we all welcome the arrival of the first day of Spring every year on the 21st.
Each March, Dieticians of Canada bring us Nutrition Month. This year, the campaign is busting up 39 popular food and nutrition myths. Is ‘multi-grain’ the same as ‘whole grain’? Is sea salt less harmful than ordinary salt? Do I have to avoid carbs to lose weight?
These truths are essential in making smart choices, especially for our children. Crepe Delicious is a proud supporter of Breakfast for Learning, a national charity whose vision is to ensure that every child in Canada attends school well nourished and ready to learn. Breakfast for Learning is also celebrating National Nutrition Month!
The Nutrition Month campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. There is an abundance of information that is accessible to us online, but what is true? The myths that this campaign tackle are part of what we face each day – ‘Multi-grain’ is not the same as ‘whole grain’, sea salt is no better for you than table salt and no, you don’t have to avoid carbs to lose weight? Visit Dieticians of Canada to read more about these myths.
At Crepe Delicious, we believe in healthy eating by selecting fresh, nutritious and wholesome ingredients. All our crepes are prepared fresh-to-order for you. Crepe Delicious is celebrating the month of March with a Mandarin Spin Crepe Combo! Have a healthy and nutritious month!

February is a sweet month.
The Hershey Company, producer of beloved Hershey Kisses, was founded in February 1894 and has delighted us with its selection of chocolates over the past 118 years. February celebrates another sweet legacy – Nutella. Nutella was created in the 1940s but it was just 6 years ago that February 5th was declared World Nutella Day. (Follow us on Twitter for our World Nutella Day promo!)
If those sweet celebrations are not enough, Valentine’s Day falls right in the heart of February. Couples shower each other with all the love they have, and impressive gifts both sparkly and sweet. Heart shaped chocolate boxes and cakes abound, but the real ‘heart’ of Valentine’s Day is enjoying your sweetheart and the ones you love.
This year, why not embrace the winter season and celebrate Valentine’s Day out on the slopes? Discover a great toboggan hill? Try tubing for the first time? Or simply enjoy a good-hearted snowball fight! These winter activities get you out into the crisp, fresh air, give a winter workout, but best of all… it gives you the excuse to snuggle up, stay warm and enjoy some of the sweet treats at the end of the day.
During the month of February and especially on Valentine’s Day 2012, remember that being around the people you love is the greatest gift of all. So when you wake up tomorrow morning, make sure to give the ones you love a kiss and a hug! Crepe Delicious is celebrating the month of February with a crepe that is perfect for sharing! Happy Valentine’s Day from everyone at Crepe Delicious!
